IMAO, partners On the AEROPOSTAL LATÉCOÈRE RAID
Preserving the memory of aeronautics and carrying out actions of solidarity, are some of the themes developed during this event that is close to home for IMAO, partners of the BROUSSARD crew in this adventure.
The Aeropostal Latécoère Raid 100th year edition, counts a total of 60 planes flying 10 000km of “La Ligne” the legendary postal transport in the ever-present spirit of Pierre-Georges Latécoère “Air to connect men”.
The pilots of IMAO are regularly faced with long convoys with light weight bi-engines, Limoges – Sri Lanka, Limoges – Johannesburg or even crossing the North Atlantic by Iceland and Greenland to reach Central America. Each year the IMAO fleet uses the legendary route “La Ligne” to accomplish photo missions in West Africa.
For many years IMAO has forged a special bond with Africa through these missions in which the sprit and values of Aero postal still resonate. It is therefore natural that IMAO became a partner of the BROUSSARD crew, a 1957 liaison plane on its journey to Dakar.
Member of the association Ailes Limousines, Jean-Charles SAQUET our chief pilot participates in the Aero postal Latécoère Raid at the controls of the collector plane, the Max-Holste Broussard. Jean-Charles says: "Latécoère, Aéropostale, La Ligne, Saint-Exupéry, Mermoz, Breguet XIV … so many names that echo in me calling out to adventure and the pleasure of flying.
“From a young age, and like many young boys, I dreamed of becoming a pilot. So, naturally I devoted my time and energy to discover this environment, its vocabulary, its codes, but also its history ...
The Ailes Limousines restored this aircraft in 2008, at that time it was used for airlifts, medical evacuation, aerial survey (2 cameras could be installed), or parachuting. Every year I make the trip to Africa as part of our projects within IMAO. We carry out a major part of our business in West Africa. This convoy has a particular meaning for me, the humane side and solidarity, and then of course the collector plane…. :-) “
Our chief pilot is taking us along for the ride to discover this beautiful project from the inside that brings together aviation of yesterday and today in the footsteps of the Aero postal of yesteryear. The official start took place on September 29th in Perpignan under the sponsorship of our President E. MACRON.
Happy flying !!!
